IFC Films is Releasing "Dark Mirror"

So it was announced officially before it was official: IndieWire has the story that Dark Mirror has been picked up by IFC Films!

We're very excited to be part of one of the last standing independent distributors. Known for releasing smart, unique films (like Steven Soderbergh's latest, Che), IFC Films has been championing independent cinema for years.

Dark Mirror will be part of a new digitally-distributed midnight series brand. We'll announce more (like when and where to watch it) as we learn more ourselves.

Great Reaction On a Plane

I watched the movie on the plane, and my laptop battery died during the mirror world sequence. I closed it and took my headphones off, and the middle aged guy next to me looked at me like I was crazy. He pointed at the laptop and said "what's wrong". I said it was out of battery and he let out the most dissapointed sigh I had ever heard. Apparently he was enjoying the MOS version of the movie without me knowing. He asked me where he could pick it up.

Screening #2: Business

A much more demure audience at the DGA Theater today. Not nearly as wild & festive as the crowd the other night. Today’s crowd chuckled in all the right places, but still it was pretty tame by comparison.

I was annoyed at the idea of a daytime screening, but it turns out this was industry hours. After the movie we were approached by several known distributors. Nice. (it's a good thing we have a sales agent)

Met some great people. The organizer of the NY Horror Meetup, George took some nice pictures during the q&a.

First Screening: NY audience + scares = wild!

NY rocks. It’s an altogether different thing to see the movie with an audience.

We had our first official screening of Dark Mirror last night as part of the NYILFF at the Imaginasian Theater. It was a great response, especially considering that this was still technically a work-in-progress.

Really loud audience. You could hear them screaming and laughing from the front lobby… "Don't go in there, lady!" etc.

At the end of the night, a huge portion of the audience stayed behind, loudly debating the ending and group-writing the sequel. We all had to be kicked out of the theater at closing time.

This is how it’s meant to be seen. Like a party. Very exciting.
